This was one of our first commissioned shoots. Bluelab, a highly innovative New Zealand company, performing incredibly well on the world stage, were launching a new product - the OnePen.
We approached this campaign by positioning scientific instrumentation as a natural protagonist within living, breathing grow environments. We wanted to feature the OnePen as a bit of a monolith - centrally placed, vertically anchored, symmetrically framed - while surrounding it with dense, immersive foliage that partially obscures the device, suggesting it belongs to the ecosystem rather than intruding on it.
Lighting was the defining creative choice: a dramatic top-down spotlight simulating a grow light source, with volumetric light cutting through the haze to create an almost holy featuring of the product.
The colour treatment pairs the product's cool blue body against rich botanical greens and warm organic elements - ripe tomatoes, purple orchids - with deep shadows pushed toward navy and teal and strong vignetting pulling focus inward.
Technically, we applied crushed blacks for high contrast, maintained sharp focus on the product against soft bokeh botanicals, and held a cool white balance throughout to reinforce the precision and premium character of the device.
